Sleeplessness is a disorder where one can hardly sleep and wake up  suddenly in the middle of the night disturbing the quality of sleep. Lack of sleep can result in tiredness, lack of concentration, depression etc.
 What are the causes of sleeplessness?

  Causes for the sleepless night have many reasons.  Sometimes an underlying sleep disorder like Obstructive Sleep Apnea(OSA) , depression, anaemia and Insomnia. We are not going into detail regarding medical disorder in this article.   One of the most common causes of Sleepless night in modern times is Stress. Underlying stress and overactive brain can cause a sleep disorder.   C

      Prevention: As per Ayurveda Vatta prakurti, people may suffer from sleepless night due to their nature. They should try to balance the Vata dosha by doing mudras and taking foods which do not aggravate vatta dosha. Performing the following mudras based on your Ayurveda nature is suggested for sleeplessness: Vaayu-shaamak or Vaayu mudra, , Prithvi-vardhak or prithvi mudra, Kapha-Kaarak or Pitta-naashak mudra Vaayu-shaamak or Vaayu mudra Prithvi-vardhak or Prithvi mudra Kapha-Kaarak or Pitta-naashak mudra 

Avoid alcohol and spicy foods.
Taking lukewarm water through out the day will be beneficial. Avoid watching TV, computer games, cell phones at the night. Taking a warm bath before going to bed would be beneficial. You should always make sleep a priority and keep a regular routine.   Alternative medicine for Sleepless night (Ayurveda treatment): 1.     Take  Amla(Phyllanthus) powder:50 gm Amla fruit relieve stress and is well known for cure sleep disorders like insomnia. 2.    Take  Brahmi powder: 50 gm Brahmi acts a brain tonic and famous for stress reduction properties. It decreases the cortisol level which is known as stress hormone. 3.    Take Vacha powder:50 gm Vacha is known for treating nervous system and mental disorders.   Mix well all the three powders. Daily before going to bed, take one teaspoon of this powder and boil it in cup of water until the water becomes half. Mix candy sugar with boiled mixture and consume it when slightly  hot.   You should visit your doctor and take advice before taking any alternative medicine as there could always be an underlying health problem such as depression, insomnia or any serious disorder.   Alternative medicines should be taken only once you diagnosed your problem properly and after consulting an expert.

One thing is very good about Ayurveda that the solutions are always very simple.When we understand the causes of the disease solutions are not difficult. In insomnia we have to understand the cause is either rajes or tames. The solution is we should eat sattvic foods we should pertain sattvic lifestyle.Sattvic lifestyle is more calming, relaxing and meditational. All these kind of activities  are beneficial to get sleep well.

The  solutions we have to take care are  suppressing excess of Vata.Which is very easily done by doing a massage in the head with oil, Oil massage is the head and all  over the body.Especially if you want to sleep nicely rub some sesame oil or almond oil in your head.Also, it is very nice to put two drops to mustard oil in your ears, before going to bed.Aall this oiling is the best solution to suppress Vata.

Foot massage is also beneficial to get sound sleep.You can do a foot massage with ghee or any other oil half an hour before you are going to sleep.

Diet also plays an important role in suppressing Vata.In your diet, you should try to make changes. Like, do no eat dry and ruff always eat warm, cooked and  lubricated foods.
